Who we are

The Agenda (theagenda.live) is an independent, automated news platform. References to "we", "us", or "our" in this policy refer to The Agenda. Our contact email is hello@theagenda.live.

This policy explains what data we collect when you visit our site, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights under applicable data protection law including the UK GDPR and EU GDPR.

Data we collect

We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the site. This falls into two categories:

Data you provide directly:

  • Email address, if you contact us voluntarily at our contact email

Data collected automatically:

  • Standard server logs: IP address, browser type, referring URL, pages visited, time and date of visit
  • Cookie preference (stored locally in your browser via localStorage — never sent to a server)
  • Bulletin last-seen ID (stored locally in your browser via localStorage — never sent to a server)

Cookies and local storage

We use a single first-party cookie to store your cookie consent preference. We also use localStorage (not a cookie) to remember which bulletin you last viewed, so we can show you the "new bulletin" notification accurately.

Neither of these is used for tracking, profiling, or advertising purposes.

Third-party cookies: If you have not opted out of advertising, Google AdSense may set cookies for ad personalisation. You can opt out via Google Ads Settings or by using a browser extension such as uBlock Origin.

We do not use analytics cookies (e.g. Google Analytics). We use privacy-respecting server-side analytics only.

How we use your data

  • Server logs — used to diagnose technical issues, prevent abuse, and understand aggregate traffic patterns. Retained for 30 days then deleted.
  • Email correspondence — used only to respond to your message. Never added to a mailing list without explicit opt-in.
  • Advertising — we display Google AdSense ads. Google may use data about your visit to serve relevant ads. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We do not share your data with third parties except:

  • Google AdSense — for ad serving on our pages
  • Cloudflare — our CDN and DNS provider, which processes traffic data as part of delivering the site
  • Netlify — our hosting provider, which processes server logs
  • Legal requirement — if required by law or valid legal process

All third-party processors listed above are GDPR-compliant and operate under data processing agreements.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
  • Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Restriction — request we limit how we process your data
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Withdraw consent — at any time, where processing is based on consent

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@theagenda.live. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the ICO (UK) or your local data protection authority (EU).

Data retention

Server logs are retained for 30 days. Email correspondence is retained for as long as necessary to resolve your query, then deleted. We do not retain any other personal data.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
